NUIM Maynooth
The Office of Commercialisation in Maynooth University is a gateway for entrepeneurs looking for innovation, and a soapbox for researchers to launch their ideas to the international commercial market. The logo design had to speak about raw innovation in various areas of expertise.
Inspiration came from the Tangram, an ancient Chinese dissection puzzle. It consists of 7 pieces, called tans, which fit together to form a perfect square. The objective of the puzzle is to form a motif utilising all seven pieces, which may not overlap. We felt it suitably conveyed the spirit of innovation in Maynooth.
We designed a motif for each of the Office of Commercialisation’s website subsections: Industry, Opportunity, Contact and Research Expertise. Weused primary colours to represent the raw, ‘beta’ nature of the innovation being represented by the Office. The master logo for the office uses the complete tangram square, but with each of the four primary colours represented, parts of the whole.
