19th CENTURY FEEL IN A CONTEMPORARY SALON
Femme Fatale is a busy, high-end beauty salon and health clinic in Lucan, Dublin. They were planning a huge rebrand project, and had the foresight to bring Magma Design on board at the planning stage to help design all aspects of the renovation, from branding to interior design.
THE BRAND IDENTITY
The first step was a new logo and identity. We designed a simple marque that works well at any size, from building signage to flyers. We paired it with a strict colour palette inspired from the polished and patina copper facade of the building architecture, and a strong font combination.
THE SALON INTERIOR
We worked with the proprietor to make a contrast between modern and traditional design. The victorian floor tiles sit in bright white rooms, the 1930’s black leather barbers chairs beside gloss black storage units, and 1950’s hollywood ephemera is backlit by an LED light wall.
The 'pièce de résistance' is a traditional pigeon-box display, with an adjustable LED rear wall, so the entire shop area can turn red for valentine's day, or green for St. Patrick's day! The customers always notice when the salon changes colour.
The website was kept simple and functional, the primary purpose was to drive traffic to the facebook page, as the vast majority of Femme Fatale’s customer base use social media over direct website access.
SOCIAL MEDIA STRATEGY
We guided the salon through the maze of social media platforms and designed a programme of regular updates, occasional competitions and a style guide so that they could manage their profile themselves, to create a following on facebook. fb.com/femmefatalelucan now has thousands of loyal followers who use the page to keep up to date on new products, and to make appointments directly with the staff.
What we learned from this project: You can pick up inspiration from anywhere, in this case the architecture played a big part in how the brand played out. The salon has become part of the building, in the same way the building has become part of the town, and the overall effect is powerful.
